Cookie Policy

This cookie policy ("Policy") describes what cookies are and how St Austell Bay Boat Club ("we", "us" or "our") uses them on the St Austell Bay Boat Club Website and any of its products or services (collectively, "Website" or "Services").

You should read this Policy so you can understand what type of cookies we use, the information we collect using cookies and how that information is used. For further information on how we keep your personal data secure, see our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of data stored in text files that are saved on your computer or other devices when websites are loaded in a browser. They are widely used to remember you and your preferences, either for a single visit (through a "session cookie") or for multiple repeat visits (using a "persistent cookie").

Session cookies are temporary and expire when you close the web browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device even after you close your browser, ensuring a consistent experience for repeat visits.

What type of cookies do we use?

Cookies are grouped into four types. Necessary cookies are always on. For the other three you choose when you first visit, and you can change your mind at any time using the settings button below.

Necessary cookies

These allow the Website to work and remember what you have already seen. For example, they recognise that you have logged in to access member-only content. They cannot be switched off.

SABBC_SESSID keeps you signed in as you move between pages. It is deleted when you close your browser.

SABBC_usertoken is only set if you tick "remember me" when you log in. It keeps you signed in for 30 days.

cookieControl, cookieControlPrefs and cookieControlVersion store the choices you make in the cookie settings. They last 180 days, after which we ask again.

news_last_visit, cal_last_visit and fees_last_visit record when you last viewed the News, Calendar and Club Fees pages so we can mark what is new or updated. They last 1 year.

VF_CODE holds the answer to the security image on the contact form. It lasts 30 minutes.

IN_ADMIN and login_error tell the Website which area you are in and why you were signed out. Both are deleted when you close your browser.

Notification cookies

These let us alert you in the menu bar when there is information you have not yet seen, and send you web push notifications if you ask for them. If you do not accept them, these alerts are switched off.

Preferences cookies

These remember your location-sharing, notification and display choices (such as units and default map or chart views) when you are browsing without an account, so we do not have to ask you again on your next visit. They are also what keeps a "like" attached to your browser.

SABBC_pref_desktop_notifications_enabled, SABBC_pref_push_notifications_enabled and SABBC_pref_show_location hold your notification and location choices.

SABBC_pref_units, SABBC_pref_wave_forecast_view, SABBC_pref_bathing_water_view, SABBC_pref_storm_overflow_view, SABBC_pref_webcam_autoplay_enabled and SABBC_pref_media_autoplay_enabled hold your display choices. They are only saved when you change a setting on the Preferences page. All of these last 90 days, and the 90 days start again each time you visit.

SABBC_uuk_id is a random visitor number. It is only stored if you accept Preferences or Analytics cookies, and lasts 1 year. Without your consent we use a number that is forgotten when you close your browser.

Analytics cookies

These let us count visits and see which pages are used, using our own Matomo statistics service (cookies starting _pk_) and Google Analytics (cookies starting _ga), if either is switched on. If you are logged in, your name and username are sent to Matomo so we can tell members' visits from guests'. Nothing is sent without your consent.

Other data stored in your browser

The same rules apply to similar technologies, so for completeness: your browser keeps the number of notifications you have already seen, so you are not alerted twice. If you turn on web push notifications, a small service worker and a push subscription are stored in your browser, and the subscription is also kept on our server so we can send you alerts. You can remove both at any time in your browser's site settings.

Third-party services

Some features load content from other organisations, who receive your IP address and browser details when your browser contacts them. We do not control what they do with it, so please see their own privacy policies.

Google reCAPTCHA protects forms from spam on the contact, calendar and webcam pages. CamSecure provides the webcam picture. The Environment Agency provides tide, water quality and storm overflow data. The maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap / OpenSeaMap, Esri and CARTO.

Changes and amendments

We reserve the right to modify this Policy at any time. When we do, we will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. Continued use of the Website after changes constitutes your consent.

Acceptance of this policy

By using the Website or its Services, you agree to be bound by this Policy. If you do not agree, you are not authorized to use or access the Website.
